I have an extensive background with all sorts of mechanical and electrical devices,
but I made a foolish mistake.
I went into my shop and built a furniture grade cabinet/cart for a small TV. The
cabinet has a mechanism which adjusts the top to any viewing angle and built-in
external speakers for the TV.
I purchased a 22" LG model based on hundreds of positive reviews. Someone with
my technical background should have been aware that simple 3.5mm (1\8") audio
jacks are no longer common in modern digital TVs. I could easily add an audio jack
but that would void the warranty.
The cart has a compartment for a Comcast DTA (Digital Transport Adapter). My
local Comcast office is really a vast warehouse for their equipment. The cart was
not designed for a full-size cable box. Do they have something similar to a DTA with
an audio-out jack? If I was forced to exchange one of my DTAs for a large cable
box, the cart I so carefully constructed would require major design changes.
(There are several inexpensive USB audio adapters for computers. Most TVs have
at least one USB port, but these adapters will not work with a TV.)
Thanks guys.
