Hello folks,
This is a very long story, but I'll cut it as short as possible. Last year, we bought a house in Washington State. Before we even made an offer, we confirmed with Comcast not once, but twice, that service was available. We were promised that not only was it available, a previous resident already had it, so hooking us up would be no problem. Great!
You can probably guess where this is going. After we moved in, Comcast tried to hook us up only to discover that not only didn't we have service, the nearest Comcast plant was 2500 feet from our door. Oops! This led to a month-long struggle just to get Comcast to acknowledge that we needed construction, during which they sent out six techs to try to hook us up to the cable that wasn't there.
Anyway, A week and a half ago, we FINALLY had a breakthrough and got them to come out and do some measurements to work up a line extension engineering plan. We just got a preliminary estimate of $50,000 to $60,000 to do the installation. Now, this sounds ABSURDLY high to us. That's about $22 per foot!
The first 1500 feet of cable from their plant would be aerial. The last 1000 feet would be trenched. I know for sure the trenching will be expensive, but there is no way I can understand $50,000. I've looked around here on the forum and found people doing similar runs for anything from $2500 to $15000, but nowhere near what we've been quoted.
I guess I'm just hoping for some perspective on this. Anyone else have similar experiences?
