Currently, I do not have a cable service and watch TV very rarely, although I do have an antenna on my roof (can get about 4 - 5 channels well), a cheap digital to analog converter box, and a 17" analog LCD TV.
This summer I'll have a couple of guests that will be staying with me for several months, and I'll probably get Comcast cable for a while. I'm planning on getting either the cheapest skinny bundle ("Internet Plus 25" for $50 + fees), or perhaps the "Digital Starter" TV ($45), partly depending on the length of the agreement needed -- I would get a better package if the commitment would be less than 1 year.
Do I need a cable box if I buy a new (probably 4K) TV? The skinny bundle does include either HBO or Showtime.
However, I already have a 40" 4k monitor and several other large (28" and 30") monitors, and I would prefer to use one of them as a TV. Money is not much of an issue, but space is, plus afterwards the TV would mostly just be sitting in my storage. Is there a Comcast converter box with 1080p HDMI output that I can buy and use? (I assume that getting a converter box would be cheaper than renting one for one year) Or even better, is there a converter box that would work with both over the air and comcast signal while giving me an 1080p HDMI output?
Actually, I would prefer displayport or HDMI 2.0 for output, but I don't think I'll find any of those on current cable boxes, though HDMI 2.0 may show up sometime.
TIA
