I've had continual signal issues with Comcast service for over a year. Many technicians have come and gone and said my signals were perfect. Some even replaced all the cables in the house. Some asked why we called them since our signals were great.
So one day, thinking about the problem, I unplugged the cable from the cable box (forced to get it since Comcast switched us to all digital) and put it in the TV's tuner.
Decent reception. Not as good as rabbit ears but still decent for a few channels.
Last tech I saw did something when I told him this. But before I said that, he said the signals were good too! To his credit, he spent a long time measuring things before leaving. After he left, neighborhood outage and now I don't get OTA channels anymore :(
Based on how nobody noticed this for so long (100% miss rate), getting OTA channels from cable must be normal, right? How many OTA channels do you get from your cable outlet? ;)
Edit: I should clarity, when I said OTA, I mean the actual OTA channels you get with rabbit ears. Not the local channels Comcast rebroadcasts.
