Now Rich Greenfield from LightShed has reported that Comcast’s contract for FOX RSNs is up for renewal in September.
According to reports, Comcast currently does not plan to renew their deal with FOX RSNs as a growing number of streaming services like Sling TV, fuboTV, and YouTube TV dropped them.
Why is this happening? According to sources, Sinclair is pushing for a price hike that cable TV owners are not willing to pay. This has forced many streaming services to drop the RSNs. Now cable companies are also looking into dropping FOX RSNs as costs continue to rise.
For now, only Hulu and AT&T TV offer FOX RSNs for cord cutters. PlayStation Vue, Sling TV, fuboTV, and now YouTube TV have shut down or dropped the networks.
It is possible that these networks will come back, but Sinclair would need to make a change to what they are asking for before that would happen. As of today, cable TVowners do not seem interested in paying what Sinclair wants for the new FOX RSNs. At some point, if cable TV companies and streaming services drop FOX RSNs Sinclair may be forced to drop the price.
