My mother is a Comcast customer, and I live nearby. She's been having an intermittent problem over the last 3 months, where a.)Cablemodem will go down and b.)The remote-control for her Converter will stop changing the channels. BUT: one channel remains on the screen just fine. Sometime on the TV, she'll get a message, "we've having a service problem at the moment, please call Xfinity for support..."
It will stay down for maybe 30 min, then come back, but this time it's been down for 6 hours, and it's still down.
I'm seeing that the Converter must 'register' or 'check in' with the central system, in order to 'authorize' the converter, and the remote to work, correct? This check-in / authorization occurs over a TCP/IP connection that the Converter negotiates with the central system?
also, *always* at the same time, her Cable modem will drop offline. I'm chalking this up to a problem that's outside the building wiring. What does everyone think...?
What would cause the Cable Modem to drop offline, and at the same time prevent the Converter from checking-in / authorizing, while *one* channel remains on the screen, and appears fine?
