[Connection] Dropouts on a specific channel due to bad set top box?

Starting late last week I noticed the HGTV channel is having dropouts, tiling, etc. This problem seems to be occurring only on that channel. After contacting customer support and going through the line check, reset set top box, etc. the problem persists. A followup call resulted in the tech stating "the only thing left is to swap out your set top box". I find this to be unlikely solution. I currently have the RNG110 and am in the San Francisco Bay Area. Any suggestions as to what I can try doing to resolve the problem before swapping out the set top box?
