I'm trying to do a self install cablecard to my Tivo Premier Series 4. The first card got Con: Yes, but Val: ? 0x046. They tried to pair the card with my Tivo several times. They determined it was a bad card. I exchanged it for a different card. The second card again got Con: Yes, but Val: ? 0x000. They now think the second card is bad too. They say it's pairing to my Tivo fine, but not validating the card to decode channels.
Tomorrow I will exchange it for a 3rd card. I suspect that it is probably not the card. I mean, two bad cards in a row? My friend said it took 4 cards before they found a good one for him. His tech said it's normal for the cards to be bad. That just doesn't make sense to me. They want to roll a truck - which I dread. I hate having to wait around for hours for them to determine the problem is elsewhere - or it may cost me money for the service call.
Is it really normal for new CableCards to be bad?
Should I keep exchanging cards?
Any ideas where the problem may lie?
I'm about to just scrap the idea of going back to Cable.
Thanks,
Rich
