FF'ding at 2X skips thru WAY too much of the show I'm watching.

When I fast-forward through a program, either if it's on delay in live tv or on DVR, the cable box has this tendency to start the skip through at its normal speed, i.e. FF1 at a moderate pace, FF2 at a faster pace, etc., and then it will jump to (not even kidding) ten minutes ahead in the recording even if I have only pressed the FF button literally three seconds ago. Like during a Flyers game, it will go to commercial at, say, 10 minutes left in the first period. I use FF2 to skip the commercials, and before I know it, I'm at the end of the first period. I'm NOT exaggerating. And I'm not talking like when you FF at 4x and you go so fast that it goes thru like 2 minutes of a show or game when it comes back from commercials because you weren't able to slow it down in time. I mean that vertical yellow bar on the FF meter will go from 10 minutes in the show (or game) to 20 minutes in while FF'ing at 2x--that is, the second-slowest FF'ing speed, not including SLR. That is not supposed to happen, and it is incredibly annoying and inconvenient. The Xfinity guy was as puzzled as I was but said something about how the newer boxes (I have the slimmer, smaller black box but not X1) are designed to FF even faster because ppl were complaining about programs not FF'ing fast enough. That sounded odd, but even if that is true, then there is a design flaw, because this cannot be how these cable boxes are supposed to work! I understand wanting to skip thru commercials faster, but if it comes at the expense of skipping through 10 minutes (or sometimes even more) of a show or game I am watching, something is definitely wrong. Anyone got any ideas or has seen this with their box?

[Content] Possible setup for national channel numbers in Chicago?

I just noticed on my full cable box that there is a whole set of duplicate channels in the 1000's. Maybe Comcast is beginning to start the process of a national channel number lineup? It only seems to be semi-organized. Not much better than the current lineup. 10xx = local broadcast. 1005 = WMAQ-HD, 1011 = WTTW-HD, 1026 = WCIU-HD. But oddly, WBBM-HD = 1006??? (should be 1002) 1100 - 1149 = cable news/weather 1150 - 1199 = local subchannels 1200 - 1399 = sports 1400 - 1499, 1600-1699 = general cable channels 1700 - 1749 = childrens cable channels 1750 - 1899 = movie channels (1500-1599 not used, but there are no duplicates of the MusicChoice channels, so maybe they will be the 1500's.)

[Other] Comcast program guide switching from Rovi/TV Guide to Gracenote

Since Wednesday, I noticed the text on Comcast's EPG (at least on the Memphis system) had changed, with the program descriptions about the same (word for word) as those on Zap2it.com. There were some slight variations in the program titles. They used to get their listings from TV Guide. Is this happening on other Comcast systems or with other providers?

[Comcast Equip] OTA and cable box

Hi, I have seen this question asked before, but still not sure what I can and cannot do. I have OTA attic antenna, hooked to the amplified splitter. From there, it connects to room TV sets. I have comcast internet and a few TV channels, but they also include some premium channels, which I want. Not many local channels though. My proposed set up: 1. Use "2 in 1 out" "splitter" to combine coax from OTA and coax from comcast. 2. The single "out" cable goes to the "in-wall" cable to the room outlet coax 3. Room wall outlet is split with "1 in 2 out" splitter. 4. One of the "out" coax cables goes to the coax TV inputs. 5. Second "out" coax cable goes to the comcast set top box. 6. HDMI connects comcast box "out" with TV HDMI input Is that a problem? Is there another way of doing it? I have not finished the hook up yet, but want to know if this will work. The idea is to watch local channels using coax TV input and premium channels using another input. If there is a better idea, I am all for it. Thanks very much.

[X1-X2] X1 remote tips

Here's a quick tip to go strait to live TV from watching a DVR recording. While watching a recording hit the "exit" button. It will take you back to the last live channel you had on the screen. No more needing to press "last' and then the "OK" button. Anyone else have any tips post them here.

Distribution Equipment

My company is getting more and more into doing CATV distribution in buildings wiring out apartment complexes for companies like Comcast, Charter, COX, etc.. to deliver content. Usually how it's done is we run the coax to the apartments back to the central electrical / telcom closet on each floor. Then the provider comes in and runs their hardline and installs their taps. However we're getting into doing some larger scale projects and are going to start doing hardline and taps ourselves inside the buildings for some projects. When looking into this what is the range for the frequencies that you would recommend understanding that there's more platforms like X1 that also use MOCA? I've used Holland a bunch but are there any recommendations for other manufacturers? We use TechToolSupply for online ordering, but would you recommend any local brick and mortar supply houses? We've got accounts with numerous suppliers but they all tend to be on more the home theater equipment, raw cabling, testing, etc.. as opposed to Splitters, Taps, Amps, etc...

[X1-X2] Preparing for X1 upgrade

I'm still using the old style HD-DVR but getting ready to update to X1 equipment. Just making sure I have all my ducks in a row so to speak. I was going to post here a few hours ago but put it off. Just a few minutes ago I was watching something I had recorded on my DVR and up pops an onscreen dialog box suggesting I need to upgrade my equipment or risk losing some HD channels or something like that. Said tune to channel 1995 for details. I went there and there were some information screens to go through to order a self-install kit. I did not follow through as I can just go down to my local Comcast office and pick up what I need. Anyway I just want to make sure my cabling is ready for a X1(XG1) box. I am rather uneducated on the newer equipment and MoCA and just glean what I see posted occasionally here. My main drop runs to a 3-way splitter outside. I have a homeline to my modem from the 3.5 tap. I have a homeline to my downstairs DVR where the main tv is located. I have the 3rd tap from the splitter running to the attic to a 4-way(need to change that to a 3-way) running down to 3 bedrooms. Currently my equipment is the DVR mentioned and 2 DTAs. I am fairly techie but just haven't kept up with the newer video offerings. I was reading some of the FAQs here and some on the Xfinity site but most of the ones here seem a little dated. I assume a self-install is easy enough as long as my cableing is sufficient. And then I will need to install the MoCA filter. Looking at the Comcast FAQ and the self-install kit did not show that included. I suppose I got that popup message as I recently upgraded my acct to a double-play package. I have been alacarte for a long time now. At this time just trying to decide how many extra boxes I want to get at least initially. The main downstairs tv will be covered with the XG1 box. Two of the upstairs bedrooms have widescreen tvs so will need the XiD boxes for them. A 3rd room tv is still an older CRT and no HDMI inputs so might only get an Xi3 for that one. Can I request a certain XG1 box as there seems to be 2 main styles with a few differences? Seems like one has video out and one does not. I do have a DVD/VCR combo burner that I record from the DVR but doesn't have HDMI inputs. And finally how many tuners in the XG1...5 or 6? And does the XG1 have it's own hard drive for recording plus you get 500 GBs of cloud storage?

Has anyone been experiencing issues with the newer XiD boxes and audio? On my 65" TV (Samsung) the box will slowly get out of sync with audio. Just curious if anyone else was experiencing similar issues.

Wireless child boxes

Does Comcast have any remote cable boxes that are wireless to a master box yet? I know there are already some X1 boxes that use the master as it's tuner, but I assume it still requires a physical cable. Just asking as somebody on the Comcast forums asked if they had something like that. I know UVerse has it, and had lots of funny ads for it. Not sure about DirectTV or similar. I did see some HDMI wireless adapters, but they are rather pricey, and you'd need a wireless remote or remote repeater.

[X1-X2] Xfinity X1 now available to New Customers

I just heard a brand new radio commercial for the new Xfinity X1 cable box on local radio station 94.1 WIP Sports radio. But like others have said its currently only available for new residents and customers :( I am a long time Triple Play customer and I wonder if I called up and complained if I could get comcast to hook me up with a few X1 boxes? My guess not very likely :( But the good news is at least its here for new customers so maybe spring or summer 2013 it will be available for the rest of the Triple Play customers. If anyone here in Philly gets it maybe you can give us a nice review with some photos and video :)
