[Price] What exactly are " digital outlet fees"?

$

What exactly are " digital outlet fees"? Those digital outlets in my house are something I paid for and belong to me. I as the customer and responsible for the internal wiring. Comcast before the encryption used to connect cable in your house and it did not matter if you had 1 or 100 TVs. They claimed the digital boxes were requires due to the government forcing them to convert all signal to digital which TV were unable to handle without their box( not true) So where did this digital outlet fee come from and if you think about it very hard, what exactly are you paying for? Is this like paying your power company a $10 fee for every power outlet you have in additional to the power that you use? What if you have a splitter on the same outlet or only use your Tivo when you want to record something on the same outlet by first unplugging your cablebox then plugging in your Tivo to record it. I think this outlet fee is absolutely nonsense and something made up in order to charge you the same thing if you lease their equipment or own your own. Being a monopoly or a quasi-monopoly allows them to play these games. I guess the FCC is not going to do anything about it or does not understand what they are doing. What do you guys think of the so called " digital outlet fee" that started coming out when people started to show interest in owning their own equipment to escape the comcast lease? Thanks.

Comcast charging for Video On Demand

I do not use VOD that often, however I have noticed that they are charging for episodes of shows and movies on channels that I subscribe to. So I would have thought that the content would be Free to me, given I already pay for those channels. Whether they be Premium ones, or basic cable. Has this been the case for some time? Or is this a new practice? By the way, I have heard that other ISP's have started to do this as well. Is that true, and this is a new practice of just making the customer mad? Thank You.

Voltage Backfeeding

Wanted to get some input on something. I am a line tech and had an installer call me today saying he had voltage on the cable. After trouble shooting and checking the house out heres what i got ....and yes i read other posts asking similiar questions but its hard to tell if they checked something properly. Voltage source is 100% from the house its an aerial drop and when completley disconnected from the house i still have the issue. There are only 2 outlets in the house 1st floor and 2nd floor and both have identical issues. I disconnected the input cable from the cable box and made a small jumper with a connector on one end and screwed it on the box the other end is stripped back exposing center conducter and braiding. I have 65 volts AC on the cable jumper plugged into box but only when its plugged in to wall outlet. I also tried using my VOM grounding to a different outlets ground prong hole and touching the cable with my other lead in it picks up 83 volts AC. The house electrical wiring is realy old and i could see some poorly done splices in the basement. I also found another ground rod on the side of the house about 20 feet from cable ground that had 1 small ground wire going to it and looks like it enters house where the electric panel is. (behing siding for 6 feet so cant verify for sure) whatever it was it was just barely making contact and so loose it fell off. I cleaned up the copper and regrounded with a new clamp and tightened down but it did not fix issue. I would say house is not grounded properly and thats the issue. But how can you determine if the house dropped a neatrul or the outlets are just not wired properly? The breaker panel is the oldest one i have seen in a long time too. Its only about 20 inches tall and 16 inches wide there cant be more than 10 breakers in there. I hated to do it but i had to leave the drop disconnected until they got an electrician out to fix issue. I just wanted to get peoples feedback if they have had a similiar situation or have any info that would be useful. And yes i am aware that certain cable boxes had AC issues and a bad box/vcr could cause this but this has been ruled out. Just for good measure we plugged box into neighbors power and no AC backfeeding.

[X1-X2] Arris AX013AN and Xi3/XiD/Xi5 - Availability? Discontinued?

I'm interested in getting an XG1-A box with some companion devices. After doing a bit of research I thought I had it figured out. I was going to get the AX013AN XG1-A and couple PXD01ANI XiD companion boxes. I was told that both were unavailable. Is that because Comcast is discontinuing these boxes in favor of something else (like maybe the Xi5... finally), or is it just a supply/demand thing? I don't think that the AX013ANx is even that old is it? Thanks

[Comcast Equip] How is the Xfinity DVR controlled?

I notice that if there is an outage the saved programs on the DVR cannot be accessed. I figured this was because they used a small piece of bandwidth to control it. Others have told me they think there is no disk drive in the DVR and everything is on a Comcast server. I can see the advantage to that because storage can be increased without changing equipment, very economical & efficient. However, that means all those movies & TV show are stored, quite a job. Anyone know how this all works? Thanks

just a couple questions here.for years at the comcast office you always seem to get a refurbished box don't they ever give out new ones?i have the AX013AN Arris XG1v3 how long will these last being that they are on 24/7?and when the XG1 reboots by the customer or for an update does the hard drive spin down or stay running?it is kind of a bummer that if the main dvr goes bad the other boxes(xid) will not work.so you have to go to swap it at the office, possibly could be one day without TV.

At the top of my channel lineup where it used to say on demand channel 1 it not says channel 1 gracenote. What exactly does this mean? And before you say wow you have 2500 channels it's all in the layout. If you notice I now have 15 latino packages along with the 4 English packages so I still have the same amount of channels as I had 3 years ago minus the ones they deleted.

This is also my 1st Post on DSL REPORTS, I am a new member. On 1-20-17 the Comcast Tech installed my X1 box. It works ok at this time. He programmed the remote so it turns off my TV but keeps the X1 box on 24/7. I can hear the cooling fan running at night when the TV is off. Is this normal and a proper why to run the new X1 box. Please comment. Joep

[X1-X2] DVR Cloud recordings?

$

I finally got my new X1 DVR installed. Just trying to understand all the new technology and how the Tech works. I'm getting the hang of things but have a question about Cloud recordings. I've been reading here and on the Comcast Forums about the "Cloud DVR", how it works and other peoples issues and solutions. Initially I was looking for something on my X1 DVR(Mine is the Arris XG1v3) that showed where I was recording to the Cloud or not. I could not find anything. Reading a little further I thought I had determined that I needed to call Comcast and see if I had the Rate Code for Cloud recording as the option seemed to be missing from my menus/settings. As I got smarter I downloaded the TV App for both my phone and tablet. I see I can see the same basic stuff there as I can on my mobile devices. Also logging into Xfinity TV I can view and control the DVR. I've been having some issues figuring out how to record a series but kinda nonstandard but that's for another time. As I read more today I think my understanding of the whole Cloud thing is confused even more. I was reading this thread: https://www.dslreports.com/forum/r31164590-X1-X2-Cloud-DVR-Recordings-Consistently-Skip ....and how the Cloud recording was skipping during playback. But from what I can tell now if you have a current version DVR when you record it not only records to the internal hard drive but records to the Cloud as well...by default. If it's available in that specific area. I've noticed this is possibly true because I can download my recordings to my portable devices. Doesn't that mean I have recorded to the Cloud? Seems from what I have read the only way to view recorded events on portable equipment is to download them first from the Cloud. Which also makes them unviewable on any other equipment until reuploaded. I downloaded one show I had recorded this morning. It downloaded 383 MBs for a 30 minute(non HD) show. Still trying to locate where it was downloaded too. Now until I find it I'm not sure what I downloaded....a stub or the whole show and in what format. So in reference to the other topic if the whole recording is downloaded to ones device and it's skipping then you're having playback issues with the device(Codecs?). If it simply downloads some type of stub of the recording and you're still actually playing back via the Cloud. I'm not sure if the Cloud technology has changed over time. Some of the help files on Comcast I read seem quite dated.

[X1-X2] When Does the X1 Schedule New Series Eps?

$

Just switched out my Moto DCX box for a new Arris AX013ANM X1 DVR over the weekend. I'm not running any multi-room stuff ... just the X1 DVR and a HD-DTA in back bedroom The X1 box activated fine, and the service seems to be working well. No problem with the on-Demand. and my signal levels look good on diag pages ... ie downstream is ~ -2 db with downstream SNR of ~41. Upstream power level is ~ 41db It looks like the X1 guide keeps 2 weeks of information of a rolling basis. When I schedule a series recording it properly adds all of the new episodes in that 2 week window and they show up in my scheduled recordings. What I've now noticed is that when a new day is added in the guide, it's not scheduling new episodes even though it's set as a series recording. For example ... I set Supergirl as series recording on on Monday nights. When I set the recording on Sunday 1/22 the X1 immediately added the 1/23 and 1/30 episodes to my schedule. The 1/23 episode recorded fine, but now that 2/6 is within 2 weeks, 2/6 is showing a new episode in my guide, BUT my x1 has not set the 2/6 episode to record. The X1 is doing this with multiple series recordings. As new days are added to the guide, the new series episodes are not getting added. Does the X1 wait a few days or weeks until it adds the new episodes to the schedule? If I delete the series recording and re-add it it picks up the new day's episode that was just added to the guide. Since I just got the X1 this weekend I haven't had a chance to study this over any decent length of time It doesn't seem to be a signal or connection issue as everything else is working fine.

Comcast has now secured the rights to stream live MLB, NFL, NBA and NHL games in-market that are carried by Fox's regional and national sports channels and included in a subscriber's TV package: Comcast Gets Rights to Stream Fox Sports By Phillip Swann, TVPredictions.com - January 25, 2017 http://tvpredictions.com/comcast012517.htmquote:Comcast has finally secured the rights to stream live MLB, NFL, NBA and NHL games in-market that are carried by Fox's regional and national sports channels, a Comcast spokeswoman tells TVPredictions.com. The cable op's video customers will be able to stream the games at the Fox Sports web site, and the Fox Sports Go app. Subscribers will only be able to watch the professional games in-market. For instance, a Comcast subscriber in Detroit could stream the Detroit Red Wings on Fox Sports Detroit, but not the St. Louis Blues on Fox Sports Midwest. Lisa Scalzo, the Comcast spokeswoman, tells TVPredictions.com that Comcast will add the Fox streaming feature sometime in mid-February, but she did not give a specific date. To stream the games on the Fox sports channels, a Comcast subscriber will need to include those channels in his or her video package. ...

[Content] Possible setup for national channel numbers in Chicago?

$

I just noticed on my full cable box that there is a whole set of duplicate channels in the 1000's. Maybe Comcast is beginning to start the process of a national channel number lineup? It only seems to be semi-organized. Not much better than the current lineup. 10xx = local broadcast. 1005 = WMAQ-HD, 1011 = WTTW-HD, 1026 = WCIU-HD. But oddly, WBBM-HD = 1006??? (should be 1002) 1100 - 1149 = cable news/weather 1150 - 1199 = local subchannels 1200 - 1399 = sports 1400 - 1499, 1600-1699 = general cable channels 1700 - 1749 = childrens cable channels 1750 - 1899 = movie channels (1500-1599 not used, but there are no duplicates of the MusicChoice channels, so maybe they will be the 1500's.)

[X1-X2] DVR Series recording -- same day multiple?

I have a new X1 DVR that I am still trying to get used to coming from the older HD-DVR. With my older one I was able to set up a series recording that recorded the show I wanted that broadcast 3 times each day, same episode. So I'm trying to get this new X1 DVR to record the same way/thing. Finding this difficult to get set correctly. Perhaps it's not possible. I am able to set the individual times to record but that is tedious to have to set a recording 3x each day on the same channel. This show in particular comes on at 4 and 9 am and then again at 5:30 Mon - Fri. Actually it comes on perhaps 10 -15 times per day on multiple channels. Religious programming. But I just want to record it from one station that also is local. Non HD. This show typically is a series like part 1 of 4, part 2, etc. Anyway it seems no matter what I try I cannot get it to record all 3 broadcasts each day with a Series setting. Even if the settings show "New and repeat episodes", 17 VTN only, All times. After this is set it seems to default to the 9 am showing only and disregards the 4 am and 5:30 pm broadcasts. The 4 am shows repeat while 9 and 5:30 show new. Depending on whether they're repeats or not.
