[HD] Question About Upgrading To Comcast HD
I recently purchased some new TV's so I went to the Comcast store and upgraded 4 new set-top boxes.
These are the four boxes: PA PX022ANM, PA PX032ANI, PA PX032ANI, PA PACEMUDTA
I have all 4 boxes hooked up with HDMI cables to the TV's and I'm paying $9.95/month for box rental. I've also had Comcast for years so I have all the channels.
So can I call up Comcast and they can activate the boxes or how much it would cost to upgrade to HD channels? I checked on xfinity.com and couldn't find a flat answer.

[Cust Svc] Detroit | Going possibly from AT&T's DirecTV to Comcast
My market is Detroit, Michigan.
I have television with AT&T's DirecTV.
I have my Internet with Comcast.
(My phone is with Verizon.)
I am out of the introductory period's rate. My usual for Internet is $79.95 for 75Mbps download.
I have considered leaving AT&T's DirecTV for cost savings by bundling with Comcast for Double Play. (Part of it isn't just cost savings; I have old equipment and am reluctant to trigger another two-year agreement.)
I wanted to ask how people feel having television from Comcast (especially from this area of the nation).
Thank you!

[HD] Comcast to finally stream NBA League Pass games in HD
RE: https://www.dslreports.com/forum/r27659196-HD-Will-Comcast-Ever-Add-HD-for-MLB-NHL-NBA-Packages
said by uid://548382 :With the launch this week of 5 HD channels for NBA League Pass, Verizon FIOS TV now carries 5 HD's for MLB Extra Innings / NHL Center Ice, as well as the NBA package. That's 10 HD channels for those InDemand packages.
Meanwhile, Comcast in my area carries ZERO. Just another mystery question on why they are sitting on all of this bandwidth...
FYI:
Comcast finally joins modern times by transmitting NBA League Pass in high definition
Comcast subscribers had been watching NBA League Pass in standard definition for years. Why?
By Ken Fang, Awful Announcing - September 20, 2017
http://awfulannouncing.com/nba/comcast-finally-joins-modern-times-transmitting-nba-league-pass-high-definition.htmlquote:It’s hard to believe in this day and age that live sports can be aired in 20th century, old timey-wimey standard definition. But subscribers to Comcast know this, especially those who have shelled out the money for the NBA League Pass out-of-market package.
For years, Comcast, the largest cable provider in the United States, transmitted all but one League Pass channel in old-fashioned SD. But apparently that’s going to change for the 2017-2018 season, as Ben Dowsett of Basketball Insiders tweeted:
Fun offseason NBA note: Sources tell me that NBA League Pass customers on Comcast will have a full range of HD channels available this year.
That’s great, but one wonders what took so long for Comcast to finally join the ranks of the 21st century. If you pay a not insignificant amount of cash for an out-of-market sports package, you expect it to be in high definition. In fact, with 4K on the horizon, you’re expecting to see some games in Ultra HD.
One of the reasons why live sports has been seen as DVR-proof and a hedge against cord cutting is the fact that the viewing experience is better at home than being at the actual game. However, when you’re watching the NBA on your 50-inch HD screen in SD, it’s as if you’re seeing archival grainy 1970’s footage on YouTube, complete with projector scratches and jump cuts.
Comcast can argue that bandwidth is limited, but other pay TV providers like Cablevision, Charter, Cox, DirecTV, Dish, and others all seemed to have adjusted fine and gave their viewers NBA League Pass in HD. It’s frustrating for a customer to be able to watch every other channel in high definition, but not the NBA.
Well, the frustration for hoops fans appears to be over and Comcast is finally giving fans a true HD viewing experience. It’s about time.

[Comcast Equip] STB: one box has incorrect acct info after update
Yesterday (9/21/2017) around 11:45a EST Comcast must have pushed something through as both of my STBs went out for a couple of minutes and then came back with all of the To Be Announced. It wasn't an outage as my HSI wasn't affected.
My issue is that ONE of my two boxes - RNG150 - is not showing correct account information. After 4 hours when I pressed the "help" button on the remote and the Services tab, it DID display my equipment but for checking connection there was an error code SH532. Under Billing when I entered the last 4 of my phone number, it said the number "is not associated with any Comcast account" !! That SH532 error has gone away as of today BUT last 4 of phone number still has "no account ....".
My old DCT700 shows the correct info.
I called Billing; everything is correct. Called tech support: first call, agent just wanted to upsell and said there was no such thing as getting info using the TV remote (arghh). On second call, I asked for a Tier II agent. He said he was Tier II and had no idea what I meant. Asked for Tier III and he said he WAS Tier III. (Lol, he's both ?)
Any idea how to resolve this, please ? What terminology do I use to *try* to explain the bit about the Help button on the Remote. I do not want to swap the box.
Thanks very much !!

[NEWS] Comcast's David Cohen on the future of pay-TV
FYI:
This Week in Comcast: David L. Cohen on the future of pay-TV
By Michelle Caffrey, Philadelphia Business Journal - September 26, 2017
https://www.bizjournals.com/philadelphia/news/2017/09/26/comcast-david-cohen-paytv-att-time-warner.htmlquote:Comcast Senior Executive Vice President David L. Cohen shared his thoughts on cord-cutting, M&A activity, Trump’s tweets and, of course, net neutrality in a wide-ranging interview on C-SPAN this past weekend. While the majority of his comments contained familiar talking points and analogies, he did shed some additional light on what the view looks like from his perch in the Comcast tower.
On the future of pay TV
When asked by Tony Romm, Recode senior editor for politics and policy (note: Comcast's NBCUniversal is an investor in Vox, which owns Recode), about what the traditional pay-TV industry will look like in 20 years, Cohen was honest.
"I’m not sure I know what pay-TV and cable looks like 20 months from now," he said with a laugh. "I think that in somewhat shorter time frame, but longer than next year, I think we’re evolving in a way that is consistent with our vision of what we’re going to see. So I think we’re going to see a continued role for what I’ll call traditional cable television."
One of the lynch pins behind that view point? Live sports. Cohen said he can’t imagine fans not wanting to watch football games or the Olympics live on large TV screens, and Comcast has a strong hold on what it calls “big events” like the Super Bowl and the 2018 World Cup. At an investor’s conference earlier this month, CEO Brian Roberts said Comcast has the rights to air 24 of those events in the next year, three times as many as the company with the second highest amount.
While digital outlets like Amazon and Twitter are said to be looking to do more with sports, Cohen said he wasn’t sure that posed a major issue to the big event strategy.
"I don't know whether it’s threats,” he said. "Every competition is not a threat."
Instead, it can push behemoths like Comcast to adapt and innovate quicker, like the arrangement it’s struck with Snapchat — Comcast’s invested $500 million in its parent company Snap during its IPO — to produce original Olympic coverage just for the disappearing video and photo messaging platform.
:
How the Trump administration could impact M&A activity
Cohen made one thing clear — Comcast is not scrambling to buy up companies to stay afloat.
"We love our company,” he said. “Post AT&T [Broadband] acquisition and NBCUniversal acquisition we view ourselves as essentially, strategically complete."
The Philadelphia-based corporation is not closed off to the M&A market entirely. If a deal increases shareholder value, it could be considered, he said, and the Trump administration will be less hostile to both horizontal and vertical deals. That conflicts with the populist theme Trump pushed during his campaign, threatening to break up Comcast itself at one point, but Cohen sees the president’s tweets on those issues as more conversational items that won’t necessarily be reflected in actual regulatory decisions, especially since the tweets often conflict each other.
"Maybe I’m immune to it, maybe I’m wrong, but I’m actually less concerned than a lot of my friends about the president’s tweets,” he said. “I think it’s a bit of a release valve for him and in that sense it’s not unhealthy."
He said he’s also seen greater restraint and substance in those tweets since General John Kelly took over as chief of staff. The full interview, just about a half hour long, is on C-SPAN’s site https://www.c-span.org/video/?434254-1/communicators-david-cohen ...

[X1-X2] Xfinity TV App
I just received an email today about the ability to watch ALL of my Xfinity channels on my iPhone, iPad, Laptop, etc now rather than just a select 20-30 from the old Xfinity TV app.
However, what is the purpose of only allowing it on Comcast Wifi? I can understand it may be convenient for kids to watch TV shows on their iPad or iPhone, but as an adult, I'm going to watch TV on my TV...and if I'm going to stream it on my iPhone on WiFi, I would like the ability to watch it on WiFi wherever I'm at...Comcast's network or not.

[Content] Comcast to stream live, local, NBC TV to FL evacuees
Comcast customers in a number of Florida counties who evacuate during Hurricane Irma will be able to use Xfinity Wi-Fi hotspots to remotely access live streams of local NBC TV broadcasts from Miami, Palm Beach and the Treasure Coast:
Comcast Will Carry Live Stream of Local NBC Broadcasts in Miami, Palm Beach and the Treasure Coast to Local Customers Who Evacuate During Hurricane Irma
Comcast press release, Business Wire - September 8, 2017
http://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20170908005690/en/Comcast-Carry-Live-Stream-Local-NBC-Broadcastsquote:In an unprecedented move, Comcast today announced that customers in Monroe County, Miami-Dade County, Broward County, Palm Beach County and the Treasure Coast who evacuate during Hurricane Irma will be able to remotely access live stream broadcasts from WTVJ-TV/ NBC-6 in Miami and WPTV-TV/ Newschannel 5 in Palm Beach County and the Treasure Coast.
Through agreements with both stations, Comcast is now carrying the broadcasts through its Xfinity Stream app https://www.xfinity.com/get-stream
NBC-6 and NBC Newschannel 5 normally carry live streams online, but viewing is typically restricted to their respective local markets. By making the broadcasts available on the Xfinity Stream app, Comcast and the stations are giving local customers and viewers a way to get important news and information about the storm and their communities in real-time, even if they had to evacuate. It marks the first time a cable company has devised a way to team up with local broadcasters and offer relocated customers out-of-market access to local broadcasts.
Comcast developed the plan as it was looking for a way to leverage its WiFi network, which is the largest in the nation, and its cloud-based network infrastructure to help impacted customers. This unique combination of assets makes it possible for Comcast to provide seamless viewing options in and out of market, either through its facilities-based network or wirelessly. ...Also on MCN: http://www.multichannel.com/news/content/comcast-carry-live-local-nbc-streams-hurricane-irma-evacuees/415131

[Content] Changes with Favorites list
Just wondering if anyone else has noticed "odd doings" (per se) with the Favorites list after CC pushed out the "neighborhood" grouping. A few weeks back I received a letter that channels would be re-arranged by neighborhood.
I had to redo my Favorites list. Now when I add a SD channel, it's HD version automatically populates in the guide. For example, adding channel 112 (AHC channel), #1480 (the HD version appears). If I delete the HD number from favorites, it also deletes the SD version and vice versa.

Anyway, just curious. Thanks.

[Connection] Missing a local PEG channel, any insights into how?
I fought with Comcast to get my HD DTA / XiD-P box enabled for HD. One thing I noticed was that the guide built into the DTA actively removes channels you're not authorized for (like HD locals prior to my HD authorization being entered in) but it's inconsistent about that. Curiously, I noticed a PEG channel I should be authorized to get, Seattle Channel in HD/321 doesn't appear to be tunable on the DTA and it's not in the channel guide in the HD form/321 (only the SD version, 21). I've looked through all the other channels on this thing and the Seattle Channel isn't in HD on any of them.
321/Seattle Channel in HD is, however, something I can tune into on my CableCard InfiniTV, which is on the same account and just on the other leg of a splitter.
Every single cable package with HD in Seattle should have the 320, 321, and 322 PEG channels in HD. I sent a question to a few folks at the city asking if "missing 321" was something others have reported/might be an improper lineup coding and was led to believe it was a "coding issue with your device". I'm still waiting for a response from Comcast to play out, but this being a new HD DTA that I've gone through several CSRs to get on the right package made me a bit more curious about my missing channel that appears on the CableCard just fine.
This afternoon, I used my CableCard and the diagnostic page to confirm that all 3 PEG channels/320-322 are actually carried on the same frequency as different programs/subchannels, so I'm back to the theory that Comcast screwed up their channel map or they've deployed boxes with a firmware that doesn't like channel 321/frequency 111000 and program 1.
Does anyone have any other thoughts ?
A small part of me would love to raise hell if they're not providing a contractually obligated PEG channel to their limited basic customers, after it was so hard to get them to actually enable a limited basic HD package on my account. Still, I just want to get this fixed and have no faith in any frontline tech support being able to investigate a highly local channel map issue or firmware quirk.

[Video] Difference between 7xx channels and 1xxx ones?
Hi all,
Last year sometime, I think, there were suddenly a whole mess of new HD channels in the Digital Starter tier beyond the 700-series ones. They all have 4-digit numbers. As an example, in Portland 712 is the "old" HD Fox TV network channel and the equivalent new one is 1012. What if any is the difference between them, and why were they created/added? Does anyone know?

[Price] Best way to re-negotiate special deal?
Hi all,
Last year around mid-October I finally called Comcast and threatened to cut the TV cord and go Internet-only. From the voicemail menu I picked "reduce or cancel services" which I suspect auto-routes you to customer retention specialists. I ended up not cutting the cord, but agreeing to a one-year deal for 50 bucks less than I would have been paying for what I had, plus I got HBO thrown into the deal as well.
I wouldn't mind just extending what I've got for another year, but if I start with that as my opening bid, I suspect they'll try to upsell me (and I don't need more than I have). So my instinct is to just say I want to cut off TV again. Any experiences/advice would be welcome.
Thanks in advance.

Questions ? Possible move from FiOS
I have been a FiOS customer for several years but may be moving over due to a much better deal from Comcast. I have a couple quick questions people could help me with:
1. I seem to recall a while back that Comcast was being uncooperative in authenticating streaming apps like HBO Go. Is that still tha case or are they playing ball now?
2. I would do a triple play with Blast (200 Mbps) and would like to own my own modem with phone support. Is the Arris TM822R a good choice or should I look for something with DOCSIS 3.1 support?
3. Any other things to consider as I look at moving from FiOS to Comcast?
Thanks!
